\n\tEXCLUSIVE:<\/strong>\u00a0Ben Stiller<\/a> is set to star in and executive produce\u00a0Protective Custody<\/a><\/em>, a new comedy series from Mike Judge<\/a> (Silicon Valley<\/em>), Steve Hely (Common Side Effects<\/em>) and Dave King (Parks and Recreation<\/em>) that Apple is developing with an eye toward a series order.<\/p>\n

\n\tMarking Stiller\u2019s first lead role in a scripted, non-sketch comedy series,\u00a0Protective Custody<\/em>\u00a0will follow a disgraced financier accused of massive fraud who is thrown into protective custody, where he must navigate prison politics, salvage his reputation, and confront the consequences of his actions while awaiting trial.<\/p>\n

\n\tProtective Custody<\/em>\u00a0will be co-written, co-showrun and executive produced by Judge, Hely and King, with Judge attached to direct. Hailing from Apple Studios, Red Hour, Propagate Content, and 3 Arts Entertainment, the show will also be exec produced by Stiller and John Lesher for Red Hour; Ben Silverman (The Office<\/em>,\u00a0Stick<\/em>), Howard Owens, and Rodney Ferrell for Propagate Content; Michael Rotenberg (It\u2019s Always Sunny in Philadelphia<\/em>,\u00a0Silicon Valley<\/em>) and Oly Obst (Nobody Wants This<\/em>,\u00a0Will Trent<\/em>) for 3 Arts Entertainment; and Academy Award nominee Nanette Burstein.<\/p>\n

\n\tProtective Custody<\/em>\u00a0originated as a pitch to Apple from Ben Silverman and Propagate Content, who had established a valued collaboration on the acclaimed Owen Wilson comedy series\u00a0Stick<\/em>, as well as the doc\u00a0The Last First: Winter K2<\/em>. They conceived the show, we\u2019re told, as\u00a0Hogan\u2019s Heroes<\/em>\u00a0meets\u00a0The Office<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 the latter, a show Silverman helped bring to the U.S. and exec produced.<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter all the success Stiller had seen behind the scenes at Apple \u2014 particularly with the Emmy-winning drama\u00a0Severance<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 there was an excitement about finding the right opportunity for Stiller to anchor an Apple series on screen \u2014 and particularly, a comedy, given Apple\u2019s appetite and ambition for expanding in the comedy space.<\/p>\n

\n\tStiller quickly sparked to the idea for the series, with Judge and his collaborators then entering the fold.
Judge had already been circling the idea of a comedy in the jail space, sources said, and given the quality of the material that presented as scripts were written,\u00a0Protective Custody<\/em>\u00a0quickly went from a development title to a priority project for Apple, with an eye toward catching Stiller, Judge and company at a window all are available to work in.<\/p>\n

\n\tProtective Custody<\/em>\u00a0reunites Judge with Hely and King following their collaboration on\u00a0Common Side Effects<\/em>, the Peabody Award-winning adult animated series from Adult Swim.<\/p>\n

\n\tFor Stiller \u2014 an Emmy and DGA Award winner \u2014 Apple is now something of a creative home. He comes to\u00a0Protective Custody<\/em>\u00a0after directing on and exec producing two seasons of their Emmy-winning drama\u00a0Severance<\/em>\u00a0and also released his passion project doc\u00a0Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost<\/em>, on parents Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, with Apple. Additionally, he produced and stars in\u00a0The Dink<\/em>, a pickleball comedy from director Josh Greenbaum that the studio releases on July 24. In The Off Weeks<\/em>, which is currently in production, he plays a divorced writing professor navigating a dangerous romance in his \u201coff weeks\u201d from parenting, amid split custody.<\/p>\n

\n\tLater this year, Stiller returns to the Focker-verse with\u00a0Focker-in-Law<\/em>, the latest film in his\u00a0Meet the Parents<\/em>\u00a0comedy franchise, which Universal releases on November 25. He\u2019s also recently inked a deal to star opposite Nicholas Galitzine and Bella Maclean in a new Netflix film called\u00a0A Matter of <\/em>
Time<\/em>\u00a0from\u00a0Enola Holmes<\/em>\u00a0helmer Harry Bradbeer and is repped by WME, VIE, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.<\/p>\n

\n\tAn Emmy winner and Golden Globe nominee, Judge is best known for his series\u00a0Silicon Valley<\/em>,\u00a0Beavis and Butt-Head<\/em>, and\u00a0King of the Hill<\/em>, which currently is airing its 15th season via a Hulu revival. He is repped by WME, 3 Arts, and Yorn, Levine, Barnes.<\/p>\n
