(Ferrari S.p.a.)<\/p>\n<p>Ferrari S.p.a.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>After intense backlash following the reveal of <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/RACE\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ferrari&#8217;s<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/05\/26\/ferrari-stock-shares-luce-electric-vehicle-ev-launch.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">all-electric vehicle<\/a>, the Luce, the CEO of rival luxury vehicle maker Lamborghini said canceling his company&#8217;s EV plans was the correct choice.<\/p>\n<p>Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said on Wednesday the automaker&#8217;s decision to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/03\/04\/ferrari-ev-lamborghini.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">kill the all-electric Lanzador<\/a> and a version of its Urus SUV to focus on plug-in hybrid electric vehicles was &#8220;the right way to go&#8221; for his company, but said &#8220;every brand, every company has to decide for themselves.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our decision to go from [traditional internal combustion engine] to plug-in was a very important one for us, and it worked out,&#8221; Winkelmann exclusively told CNBC during a virtual interview. &#8220;We don&#8217;t speak about our competitors &#8230; but everybody has their own strategy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Winkelmann declined to comment directly on the Ferrari Luce <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/05\/26\/ferrari-sinks-after-new-ev-is-bashed-online-analysts-say-buy-the-dip.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">or the responses it has received<\/a>, but said &#8220;innovation is paramount&#8221; to success. However, he said innovation should not be made for innovation&#8217;s sake or forced upon customers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By observing the market &#8230; we saw that the acceptance curve [of EVs] for our type of customers is not increasing, and that therefore we decided to move away from a full-electric car into a plug-in hybrid,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Lamborghini, owned by German automaker Volkswagen, was one of many global automakers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/12\/23\/evs-gm-ford-hyundai-tesla.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to have pulled back on EV investments<\/a> due to weak demand.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"InlineImage-imageEmbed\" id=\"ArticleBody-InlineImage-107046596\" data-test=\"InlineImage\">\n<div class=\"InlineImage-wrapper\">\n<div>\n<p>Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Lamborghini<\/p>\n<p>Courtesy: Lamborghini<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Shares of Ferrari fell about 8% on Tuesday in Milan and dropped 5.3% in New York after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrari.com\/en-EN\/corporate\/articles\/ferrari-luce-a-new-chapter-for-the-maranello-marque\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unveiling of the Luce<\/a> on Monday in Italy.<\/p>\n<p>Analysts said the stock reaction was partially due to &#8220;design hate.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ultimately many fans are disappointed that Ferrari is embracing the EV concept, believing it dilutes the supercar brand, which has modelled itself around classic design and raw, combustion-engine power,&#8221;
