The North Carolina baseball team has a significant challenge to overcome if they want to make another College World Series appearance.<\/p>\n
UNC will have to come back from losing the first game of its Super Regional as USC rallied past the Tar Heels to take Game 1. The Trojans overcame a 5-1 deficit and scored eight unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings in a 9-5 win. <\/p>\n
Dean Carpentier hit a grand slam to put the Trojans ahead for keeps at 6-5 in the sixth inning.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Game 2 is Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n
UNC carries the homefield advantage with all three potential games coming at Boshamer Stadium.\u00a0<\/p>\n
UNC (48-11-1, 22-8 ACC) swept through the regional last weekend, beating VCU in the opener and East Carolina twice. The Tar Heels are the No. 5 seed nationally and reached the ACC championship game, falling to Georgia Tech.<\/p>\n
USC (47-16, 20-10 Big Ten) won the College Station Regional by taking four straight games and outscoring their opponents 55-14 after losing the opener to Texas State.<\/p>\n
It’s the first time the teams have met since 2012.<\/p>\n
The Tar Heels last reached the CWS in 2024, when they were eliminated by Florida State. That was the program’s 12th CWS appearance.<\/p>\n
USC hasn’t reached the CWS since 2001.<\/p>\n
