Near, far, wherever you are, now you can watch\u00a0Marla Mindelle<\/a>\u2014uh, we mean,\u00a0C\u00e9line Dion\u2014perform The production officially opened\u00a0at the St. James Theatre April 12 after beginning previews March 26. Tye Blue<\/a> is at the helm.\u00a0<\/p>\n The musical, a campy send-up of the blockbuster 1997 film Titanic<\/em> set to the songs of C\u00e9line Dion, comes to the Main Stem after becoming a cult favorite Off-Broadway. The work features a book by Marla Mindelle, Constantine Rousouli, and Tye Blue, and music supervision, orchestrations, and arrangements by Nicholas James Connell<\/a>.<\/p>\n Titan\u00edque<\/em> is currently nominated for four Tony Awards: Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Lead Actress in a Musical (for Mindelle), and Featured Actor in a Musical (for Layton Williams<\/a>).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The musical began as a one-night-only concert in Los Angeles in 2017, coming to New York’s Green Room 42 the following year before becoming a fully staged Off-Broadway musical in 2022. Originally intended to be a limited run, the production became a surprise smash hit, transferring to the Daryl Roth Theatre for a three-year run that ended last year. Since its premiere, the musical has spawned stagings in Australia, Canada, London’s West End, Chicago, and Paris.<\/p>\n Reprising their work on Broadway, Frankie Grande<\/a> (Rock of Ages<\/em>) as Victor Garber<\/a>, Rousouli (Wicked<\/em>) as Jack Dawson, and John Riddle<\/a> (Frozen<\/em>) as Cal Hockley, now joined by Jim Parsons<\/a> (Mother Play<\/em>) as Ruth Dewitt Bukater, Deborah Cox<\/a> (The Wiz<\/em>) as Unsinkable Molly Brown, Melissa Barrera (In the Heights<\/em>) as Rose Dewitt Bukater, and Layton Williams (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie<\/em>) as The Iceberg. Williams is reprising his Olivier-winning work from the musical’s recent London premiere. Background vocalists Sara Gallo<\/a> (1776<\/em>), Polanco Jones (The Wiz<\/em>), and Kristina Leopod (SIX<\/em>) as well as understudies Tess Marshall<\/a> (Titan\u00edque<\/em>), Brad Greer<\/a> (Titan\u00edque<\/em>), and Kyle Ramar Freeman<\/a> (The Wiz<\/em>) round out the company.
