Christopher Jackson is set to make his grand return to \u201cHamilton.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Grammy and Emmy winner, who originated the role of George Washington in the acclaimed musical, announced June 16 that he is stepping into the part once more. <\/p>\n
\u201cSept. 8, I am going back into the show, through January,\u201d Jackson said on TODAY.<\/p>\n
He said after the 10 year anniversary of the show in 2025, he started to get the \u201citch\u201d to return. <\/p>\n
\u201cThere are few opportunities that you get to have that give you a chance to really dig in. It\u2019s a lot of new people, it\u2019s (the) same old building. My favorite building in New York,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n
He shared that while he needs to refresh himself on his notes and lines, he\u2019s not too nervous, joking, \u201cI\u2019ve done it a few times.\u201d <\/p>\n
In a statement, Jackson called returning to the role of George Washington a \u201cdeeply meaningful homecoming.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cThis show changed my life, and it remains one of the great honors of my career to be part of telling this story,\u201d he said. \u201cTo step back into this room, with this company and this audience, is something I will never take for granted.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cHamilton\u201d producer Jeffrey Seller also celebrated Jackson\u2019s return.<\/p>\n
\u201cLin-Manuel (Miranda) wrote George Washington with Chris\u2019 gorgeous voice and musicality in his head,\u201d Seller said in a statement. \u201cHow lucky are we that we get to experience his George Washington one last time?\u201d <\/p>\n Jackson\u2019s Broadway shows begin on Tuesday, Sept. 8, and will run until Sunday, Jan. 3, 2027, at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City. He continued to play the role when the show moved to Broadway\u2019s Richard Rodgers Theatre on Aug. 6, 2015. <\/a><\/p>\n His stoic portrayal and booming vocals, highlighted during his solos in songs like \u201cHistory Has Its Eyes on You\u201d and \u201cOne Last Time,\u201d earned him a Tony Award nomination for best featured actor in a musical. (The award went to his co-star, Daveed Diggs, who originated the dual role of Marquis de Lafayette\/Thomas Jefferson.) Jackson also won a Grammy for best musical theater album for \u201cHamilton (Original Broadway Cast Recording).\u201d <\/p>\n Jackson\u2019s limited engagement comes after the musical celebrated its 10-year anniversary in 2025. To mark the occasion, fellow original cast member Leslie Odom Jr., who played Aaron Burr, reprised his role last year. <\/p>\n Odom, whose performance landed him a Tony for best leading actor, revealed his return on TODAY<\/a> in April 2025. He had a 12-week limited run of sold-out shows from Sept. 9, 2025, through Nov. 23, 2025. <\/p>\n \u201cYou don\u2019t get shows that run 10 years,\u201d Odom told Savannah Guthrie before his run began. \u201cThere are a lot of shows we love, great shows, that they come and they go \u2014 that\u2019s the nature of the theater.
