OMAHA, Neb.\u00a0\u2013\u00a0The West Virginia University baseball team continues its stay in the College World Series with an elimination game against Troy on Tuesday, June 16, at Charles Schwab Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.

\nThe winner will advance to Wednesday’s game against No. 5 North Carolina and will have to defeat the Tar Heels twice to advance to the championship series.
\n\u00a0
\nThe game between West Virginia and Troy will air on ESPN with Mike Monaco, Eduardo Perez, Ben McDonald, and Taylor McGregor on the call. It can also be heard on the Mountaineers Sports Network with Andrew Caridi<\/a><\/dfn> and Jake Weghorst on all radio affiliates as well as the Varsity Network, WVU Gameday App, and WVUSports.com.

\nThe Mountaineers are 46-16 overall record this season and are 1-1 in the College World Series after defeating Troy, 7-5, in the opener before falling to North Carolina, 5-2. It is the first CWS appearance in program history, finally breaking through after falling just short in Super Regionals in 2024 and 2025.\u00a0

\nRedshirt junior Maxx Yehl<\/a><\/dfn> was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year while fellow pitchers \u2013 sophomore Chansen Cole<\/a><\/dfn> and graduate student Ian Korn<\/a><\/dfn> \u2013 joined Yehl on the All-Big 12 First Team alongside sophomore catcher Gavin Kelly<\/a><\/dfn>. Senior outfielder Paul Schoenfeld<\/a><\/dfn> earned a spot on the second team while graduate student Reese Bassinger<\/a><\/dfn>, senior Carson Estridge<\/a><\/dfn>, junior Armani Guzman<\/a><\/dfn>, sophomore Matt Ineich<\/a><\/dfn>, and graduate student Sean Smith<\/a><\/dfn> earned honorable mention status.

\nYehl (Perfect Game, NCBWA, ABCA, Baseball America), Kelly (Perfect Game, NCBWA, Baseball America), and Cole (NCBWA) were all recently named All-Americans with Yehl landing on the first team by Perfect Game.

\nKelly leads the team with a .375 batting average, 17 home runs, 21 doubles, 57 RBI, and 66 runs scored. Guzman is tops in the Big 12 with 39 stolen bases, the most in a single season in program history, breaking current St. Louis Cardinal Victor Scott II’s record in the opener against Troy with a steal of home.

\nOn the mound, Yehl leads the Big 12 with a 2.13 ERA while striking out 112 batters in 97.0 innings. Cole has a 3.14 ERA while going 10-1 and collecting 108 strikeouts in 97.1 innings. Korn has a 2.95 ERA and leads the Big 12 with a 1.03 WHIP.

\nTroy is 39-31 overall this season after defeating Ole Miss, 12-8, in an elimination game on Sunday. Like West Virginia, it is the first trip to Omaha for the Trojans.

\nCatcher Jimmy Janicki was named the Sun Belt Player of the Year and is hitting .344 with 21 home runs and 87 RBI. Zach Crotchfelt has pitched in both games in Omaha and has 3.49 ERA in 67.0 innings this season for the Trojans.
