\n\tNetflix<\/a> has swiftly canceled the Duffer Brothers<\/a> series The Boroughs<\/a><\/em> after just one season, The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> has confirmed. The show premiered less than a month ago.<\/p>\n \n\tThe Boroughs<\/em> was highly anticipated as it represented Matt and Ross Duffer<\/a>\u2018s first series after Stranger Things<\/em>, which is iconic in Netflix\u2019s history. Stranger Things<\/em> was sci-fi with kids, The Boroughs<\/em> was sci-fi with seasoned adults. Part of the problem here, a source tells THR<\/em>, is that sci-fi is expensive. Another piece surely is that the Duffers are taking their talents to Paramount<\/a>. (The Boroughs<\/em> wouldn\u2019t have followed, but sometimes breakups are hard.)<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cIn a seemingly perfect retirement community, a grieving newcomer\u2019s monstrous encounter inspires him to join a misfit crew of unlikely heroes who uncover a dark secret that proves their \u2018golden years\u2019 are more dangerous, and they are more formidable, than anyone expects,\u201d the logline for The Boroughs<\/em> reads.<\/p>\n \n\tThe Boroughs<\/em> starred Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O\u2019Hare, Clarke Peters and Bill Pullman. It had Cocoon<\/em> (1985) vibes.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cIn the sun-drenched expanse of the New Mexico desert lies The Boroughs, a picturesque retirement community promising its residents the time of their lives,\u201d the official synopsis reads. \u201cBut for new arrival Sam Cooper (Molina), paradise feels more like a prison. Last week, it was number eight among all of the streamer\u2019s English-language TV. Still, Netflix (basically) said, \u201cDon\u2019t let the door hit you on your way to Paramount.\u201d<\/p>\n
