The tablet threatens to consume the 8-year-old\u2019s every waking moment, leaving no time for making memories with her partners in pretend.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqjmwjo4000a3b6wsnybdwug@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Indeed, a long-abandoned toy robot tells cowgirl Jessie (voiced by Joan Cusack) early in the film that \u201cthe age of toys is over\u201d and screens have taken over. Lilypad comes leaping into Bonnie\u2019s life and bedroom because her parents want to help their imaginative child make friends in real life, even if they begin in the digital world. Bonnie\u2019s parents are a little desperate but at the same time deeply hesitant about introducing their daughter to screen time.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqjmwjo4000b3b6w236kbjfq@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            What unfolds is the kind of heartstring-pulling you\u2019d expect, with a hearty acknowledgement of how hard \u2014 and downright heartbreaking \u2014 it can be to manage your child\u2019s relationship with technology and screens when the world is increasingly dependent on them. Or would you, like one family in the film, be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/cnn-underscored\/reviews\/the-brick?utm_source=internal&amp;utm_medium=mainsite&amp;utm_id=features\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">so consumed with your device of choice<\/a>, face illuminated in a cool blue light, that you wouldn\u2019t notice a thing?\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqjmwjo4000f3b6wcpo492sv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The scene is minor but wordlessly highlights a major issue: Device use is a whole family issue. There is no examining your child\u2019s relationship with screens without looking at everyone\u2019s use in a household. That\u2019s particularly because younger children model what they see and do so without nuance, according to Josephine Hunt, a longtime public-school teacher and children\u2019s mental health advocate based in Park Ridge, New Jersey.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqjmwjo4000g3b6wlr6dalqo@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cWe may be on a device answering emails or doing work, working on proposals or projects, but our children are seeing us on the screen and not really understanding that,\u201d Hunt said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmqjmwjo4000h3b6wu44lgmsc@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Simple, age-appropriate conversations about device use could help children understand the difference between necessary engagement and recreation. The toys are crushed to see it happen, and it\u2019s crushing to watch her disappointment turn into complacency. hearty spoiler alert \u2014 though, maybe you could have guessed there is a happy ending to the film: Bonnie and her parents figure it out on their own terms, aided, of course, by her toys\u2019 intervention and a technology-aided connection with a new friend who shares her interests in creative play.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\"
