\n\tHopes for a \u201cRatatouille<\/a>\u201d sequel are being shot down by director Brad Bird<\/a>, who said in an interview with Collider <\/a>that he has no interest in continuing the story of the rodent chef Remy. Pixar<\/a> often franchises its beloved movies, from \u201cFinding Nemo\u201d to \u201cThe Incredibles\u201d and \u201cToy Story\u201d (the fifth installment just opened in theaters). Even \u201cCoco\u201d is getting a sequel. <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cNo, I don\u2019t,\u201d Bird said when asked if he\u2019s got interest in bringing \u201cRatatouille 2 \u201d to life, although Pixar executives have tried to push him in such a direction over the years. \u201cThey\u2019ve made little feints towards that to see how I would react. They\u2019ll crack a joke, but the joke will be a little bit serious, like, \u2018Would you?\u2019 And I\u2019m like, \u2018No, we told that story.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cAny time you do something that ends up connecting with people, they automatically think, \u2018How about another?\u2019\u201d Bird added. \u201cPeople have mentioned it about\u00a0\u2018The Iron Giant,\u2019 which is hilarious to me because the film didn\u2019t succeed at all in its initial release. It\u2019s caught up in time, but what would you do to follow that up? He\u2019s lumbering around, still undiscovered?\u00a0In other words, to me, that story is told.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tPatton Oswalt, who voiced Remy in the Pixar classic, revived hopes for a sequel when he told The Daily Beast\u2019s \u201cObsessed\u201d podcast<\/a> earlier this month that he wants to make one as long as Bird is involved. <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cObviously, I\u2019d love if there was a\u00a0\u2018Ratatouille\u2019\u00a0sequel,\u201d Oswalt said. \u201cSo if he gets an idea, that\u2019s the one I wanna do. I don\u2019t wanna be the guy going, \u2018Hey, what if Remy did this?\u2019 I want it to be one of those ideas that happens that you cannot get away from. I don\u2019t want it to come from us going, \u2018All right, let\u2019s get out the legal pads and let\u2019s break down a sequel.\u2019 There are a lot of movies where that\u2019s how they\u2019re done, and it always feels inorganic.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tUnfortunately for Oswalt, Bird does not want to go the sequel route with \u201cRatatouille.\u201d The film, about a rat who becomes a chef in Paris, was a Pixar blockbuster in 2007 and scored Oscar nominations for original score, sound editing, sound mixing and original screenplay. The movie\u2019s $623 million gross made it the sixth highest-grossing film of 2007.<\/p>\n
