Simone Biles Posts About ‘Almost Dying’ In Health Scare. What We Know

Simone Biles recently endured a health scare, calling it “one of, if not the scariest experience of my life.”

The 11-time Olympic medalist shared a post to her Instagram story on June 6, alluding to an alarming medical issue, although she didn’t get into any specifics.

What Happened to Simone Biles?

Simone Biles posted a photo of her wrist with hospital bands on it to her Instagram story June 6.

“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age,” Biles captioned the photo. “But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week.”

Biles, who won four medals during the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, did not provide any further details about what happened.

She said her husband, Jonathan Owens, who signed with the Indianapolis Colts in March, was not with her during the ordeal.

“This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life. Especially since Jonathan (Owens) was in Indy for practices,” she wrote.

“I’ve been in bed resting this week, I’ll explain sooner or later but s/o to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited & or sent flowers. Loooovveeee y’all,” she concluded.

She later posted a photo of her resting in bed with her dogs, along with an image of her heart rate.

The post came just days after she shared a video of her doing backflips on a trampoline on June 3.

Simone Biles’ Previous Health Updates

The world’s most decorated gymnast, 29, has been open about the toll her body has paid from competing over the years.

“I went back to the village, I took the elevator and my body literally collapsed. I was sick for 10 days,” she told L’Equipe in 2025 about her experience at the 2024 Summer Olympics. “The other day, we were sprinting in the garden with friends, I had aches and pains for three days.”

Biles withdrew from five events at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo after suffering from “the twisties.”

“So, having these mental blocks in the gym recently, it’s not been fun, it’s been scary,” she said on her Facebook Watch show, “Simone vs Herself,” in September 2021. “I’m getting lost in my skills. I’m so prepared that I don’t know if I’m overthinking, but it’s getting to the point where it’s becoming dangerous.”

Biles also said the problem led her to become concerned for her physical well-being.

“It’s like at this point, I don’t know what to do because it’s too dangerous to do, and you can’t change the routines,” she said.

The “twisties” occur when a gymnast loses spatial awareness while mid-air.

“It’s so dangerous. It’s basically life or death. It’s a miracle I landed on my feet,” Biles previously told New York magazine about her experience with the mental block. “If that was any other person, they would have gone out on a stretcher.”

Is Simone Biles Competing at the 2028 Olympics?

The 2028 Games will take place in Los Angeles, and Biles’ status was uncertain even before this health incident.

“Whether on the apparatus or in the stands, I still don’t know that,” she told French sports outlet L’Equipe back in April 2025. “But 2028 seems so far away, and my body is aging. I felt it in Paris.”

Biles also remained noncommittal during a TODAY appearance this past January.

“If I have to say anything, I’m just like, ‘Give me a little bit more time to recover, mentally. Physically,’” she said. “We got a little bit more things to do and then we’ll see.”
